Career and Alumni Relations Coordinator

Location: Minneapolis, MN

Format: In-person, Full-time (40 hrs/week)

Reports to: Director of Employer Partnerships

The Career and Alumni Relations Coordinator’s goal is to help build and leverage Prime’s most important asset: the learning community made up of students and alumni. Core responsibilities involve developing and strengthening the relationship between Prime and its alumni as well as between alumni in support of collaborative learning and professional advancement. The Career and Alumni Relations Coordinator seeks to connect Prime’s community with the broader technology community through mentorship, guest speakers, etc - often serving as a representative of Prime when recruiting industry professionals to get involved. Through contact with alumni and students, the Career and Alumni Relations Coordinator will document stories of student and alumni success and help to share those messages through social media and beyond. 

The Career and Alumni Relations Coordinator helps to foster connections amongst students, alumni, community volunteers (e.g., mentors, guest speakers) and employers. They’ll work with the Prime Faculty to build connections with and for current students and alumni. The Career and Alumni Relations Coordinator focuses on capturing stories and building relationships with Prime students and alumni in order to support students in networking and placement and to support Prime in product and curriculum development. The Career and Alumni Relations Coordinator assists in representing Prime at industry events and helps to encourage the Prime community to engage with the broader conversation in the region. They’ll help to ideate and execute on events targeted at helping students and alumni to network, develop skills and make connections that can be useful to them as they pursue their professional goals.

Role Responsibilities: 

This may include the following as well as new ideas you bring to the table:

  1. Build and maintain relationships with current students and Prime alumni
    1. Schedule and conduct weekly group meetings
    2. Offer and conduct individual meetings
    3. Schedule and share event info
  2. Conduct weekly prospective student calls as needed
  3. Assist in supporting Prime students and alumni in building relationships within the industry
  4. Collect, curate and share stories from Prime and its alumni in social media 
  5. Assist Director of Employer Partnerships with administrative duties as assigned
    1. Documentation collection (mock interview, career day materials)
    2. Reviewing job materials (LI profiles, resumes, cover letters)
    3. Calendar scheduling
  6. Support Prime’s alternative programs
    1. Deliver lectures
    2. Offer and conduct office hours as needed

Typical Duties

  • Connect with students and alumni through 1:1 conversation and consultation, soliciting conversations with alumni as well as responding to requests for support and connections
  • Conduct prospective student calls, answering questions about Prime and the industry
  • Collect, catalog and share stories from Prime’s alumni network
    Manage and produce events that drive engagement between students, alumni, and staff
  • Proactively recruit participants for Prime’s mentorship and guest speaker programs
    Share student stories using Prime’s social media presence on platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
  • Help curate and develop campus culture by coordinating events and activities with staff and students.
  • Occasionally represent Prime at networking and community events

Education and Experience

  • Relationship building (e.g., HumanResources, Recruiting, Community/Alumni Relations)
  • Project management
  • Career counseling
  • Presentation and public speaking
  • Familiarity with tech industry terminology and developments (design and software development)
  • Social media management

  • Self-motivated and success driven within guidelines and metrics that are being actively defined and iterated upon
  • People and relationship-oriented with proven networking and community building skills
  • Able to offer guidance and support within potentially emotional situations, responding promptly to requests for service and assistance
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to adapt interaction style for different audiences
  • Discrete in dealing with sensitive student and client information. 
  • Able to compartmentalize information
  • Organized detail oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Comfortable using social media tools such as Twitter, FaceBook, Instagram, etc. to capture and share student and alumni experiences
